Physiotherapy

Feel Better. Live Better.

We’ve got everything you need to resolve your pain and prevent future recurrence. You do not need a physician referral for physiotherapy, and powerful treatment techniques such as Shockwave Therapy and Spinal Decompression are fully covered by most extended health plans! Back in Motion has 5 physiotherapy locations in the lower mainland. Vancouver Physiotherapy, Burnaby Physiotherapy, Surrey Physiotherapy and Richmond Physiotherapy. We have some of the most knowledgeable and experienced therapists on the market, all with extensive understanding of all areas of Physiotherapy treatments.

Manual Therapy

A hands on physiotherapy technique that includes gentle joint mobilizations and soft tissue release techniques to restore joint range of motion and facilitate fluid, pain free movement. Manual therapy is most often applied to the neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle/foot.

Pain Relief Modalities

Electrotherapy treatment options such as TENS, interferential, and ultrasound, are applied to alleviate pain, reduce muscle spasm, decrease inflammation, and stimulate healing in combination with Physiotherapy. Neuromuscular stimulation can also be used to re-establish proper muscle activation/timing and optimize strength.

Spinal Decompression / Traction

A mechanical decompression/distraction force is gently applied to your spine through either manual (therapist) or mechanical (spinal traction bed) measures to relieve pressure on your nerves, discs, and joints. Most effective in combination with physiotherapy treatment for sciatica, pinched nerves, bulging or herniated discs, and degenerative disc disease to relieve back and leg pain or neck and arm pain.

Sport Injury Rehabilitation

We have certified Sport Med physicians and physiotherapists on staff to ensure your injury is managed with best practice techniques for a safe and timing return to hobby or play. Our sports physiotherapists will perform a detailed assessment to determine the mechanism of injury (trauma vs. slow insidious onset), extent of damage (specific musculoligamentous stress tests), and identification of contributing factors such as postural asymmetries, specific weakness, or training errors. State-of-the-art physiotherapy treatment techniques such as Shockwave Therapy will ensure a strong and speedy return to sport.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique is an instrument-assisted therapeutic physiotherapy treatment used by therapists in order to treat conditions related to skeletal, muscle, and soft tissue injuries. This consists of 6 stainless steel instruments of different shapes and sizes used for soft tissue mobilization that lets therapists effectively break down scar tissue and connective tissue restrictions. The technique is designed to detect and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. It is an effective therapy used by numerous high profile professional athletes (Michael Phelps) for a variety of painful conditions and injuries.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is the single most effective technique for calcific tendonitis and chronic soft tissue conditions such as tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, among other conditions. The tool releases a series of acoustic wave pulsations to the problem area, through the client’s skin via a gel medium. This does not require the use of medication or analgesics. Radial Shockwave Therapy helps to stimulate the body’s natural self-healing process and known to be effective in treating chronic re-occuring conditions that have not been successfully managed through other treatment methods.

Vertigo, Dizziness, and Concussion Rehab

Dizziness and Vertigo account for up to 10% of all doctor visits. The source of these complaints is often difficult to identify, but can be related to head trauma (motor vehicle accidents, falls), ear infections, and age-related factors to name a few. Injury-Specific Exercise Therapy

Not all exercises are the same, and depending on your specific diagnosis you will want to avoid certain movements while focusing on a specific set of exercises. Following a thorough musculoskeletal examination, your physiotherapist will develop an injury-specific home exercise program that is sure to accelerate your rehabilitation.

Therapeutic Taping

Taping techniques are used effectively to:
• Reduce pain
• Stabilize a joint
• Improve joint mechanics
• Prevent re-injury

This technique can be very effective immediately following an injury to reduce inflammation and prevent further injury, and is also used during rehab to restore joint mechanics and optimize your rehabilitation.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Following surgery the goal of physiotherapy is to optimize your healing and realize the full potential of your surgical procedure. Treatment will focus on restoring range of motion, re-activating specific musculature with neuromuscular stimulation and surgical-specific exercises, and decreasing your pain with electrotherapy or other modalities. Surgeries that benefit from post-surgical rehab include:

• Shoulder – rotator cuff repair, subacromial debridement, dislocation repair
• Knee – ACL repair, meniscal repairs, total knee replacements
• Hip – arthroscopy, total hip replacement
• Spine – discectomies, lamenectomies, fusions
• Ankle – fractures, ligament repair, fusion
• Wrist – fractures, carpel tunnel release
